Nature within reach

Every session is an adventure

Routes to the Wild is a mobile forest school. We bring dens, campfires, tools and stories to your nearest green space — no woodland estate required.

How it works

Three steps from doorstep to den-building

1

Find your route

Tell us where you are — a school field, local park, club grounds or community green. If it's a suitable outdoor space, we can run there.

2

We come to you

Our fully-equipped mobile setup arrives with everything a forest school needs: tools, tarps, fire kit, ropes and a qualified leader.

3

Grow wild

Regular, seasonal sessions build confidence, resilience and a lasting connection with nature — rain, shine or glorious mud.

Why forest school

Learning that sticks, because it's lived

  • Confidence and resilience — children set their own challenges and learn that setbacks are part of the adventure.
  • For every child — including those who thrive outside the traditional classroom. The woods don't ask anyone to sit still.
  • Seasonal, long-term learning — forest school isn't a one-off activity day. Returning through the seasons is where the magic happens.
  • Professional mentorship — sessions led by a qualified youth worker with full risk assessments, insurance and DBS checks.

Who leads the way

Hello, I'm Natalie — your guide on every route

Good to know

Forest school questions, answered

What is a mobile forest school?

A mobile forest school brings nature-based, outdoor education to your own green space instead of you travelling to a woodland. Routes to the Wild arrives fully equipped with tools, tarps, fire kit and ropes, led by a qualified practitioner, so children learn and play outdoors in a familiar local setting.

Where does Routes to the Wild run sessions?

We cover Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and surrounding areas, travelling further by arrangement. Sessions run in school grounds, parks and commons, woodland, nurseries, community centres and club or scout grounds — most green spaces work well.

What ages are your forest school sessions for?

Sessions are shaped around the group, from early years and little explorers through to older children and young people. We also run team-building days for adults.

Do sessions run in winter and in bad weather?

Yes — sessions run all year round and in all weathers. Returning through the seasons is where forest school has the greatest impact. As the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong coat.

Is my space suitable for a forest school session?

Most green spaces work brilliantly with the right setup. If you're unsure, send us your location and we'll happily take a look before your first session.

Are your sessions safe, insured and led by qualified staff?

Every session is led by a qualified youth worker with forest school leadership training, and is fully risk-assessed and insured. Our lead practitioner holds an enhanced DBS check and a current first aid certificate.
